South Island Tour Itinerary
Lets explore some of the most spectacular places in the world
Day 1 - 2
Making your own way to Queenstown, NZ, we will meet at the Airport or the hotel around midday, you will be greeted by your tour leader. We will check in, have some lunch and get to know our group. With its towering mountains and lakeside location, Queenstown is a hub of adventure, bursting with adrenaline and fun. Depending on arrival, you will have the afternoon for your leisure. Late afternoon, we will get together and prepare for our first sunset photo shoot.
Day two, we'll get up early to shoot sunrise in Queenstown, before heading to Arrowtown to explore all its charm and get some breakfast. From there we head over the Crown Range to the scenic lakeside town of Wanaka, where we will onboard an exclusive helicopter private flight that will take us to the top of the snow-capped mountains and provide us with a close-up view of the impressive Mount Aspiring. The flight will also include snow landings - this will undoubtably be one of the highlights of the trip. In the evening, we shoot sunset at the famous "that Wanaka tree".
Day 5 - 7
Today, we will shoot sunrise in Tekapo before we leave the mountains behind and start heading towards the coast. First we head to Oamaru, where we will explore some of New Zealand’s best and most complete Victorian streetscapes in Oamaru’s Victorian Precinct.
We will then head out to Moeraki to scout compositions ot the mysterious Moeraki Boulders, and make the most of sunset.
The following day, we drive to Dunedin where we have the whole day to explore, before heading out to Nugget Point, an iconic panoramic platform with one of the country’s oldest lighthouses perched above the famous rocks named by Captain Cook.
The next day, we will take the Southern Scenic Route and explore the remote Catlins region. We will learn how to take long-exposure photographs of the beautiful McLean and Purakanui Waterfalls, and also have the chance to capture images of the unique wildlife that can be found in the southeast corner of New Zealand. We settle in Invercargill, New Zealand's southern most city.
Day 3 - 4
We will begin our trip towards Mount Cook, the tallest mountain in New Zealand. We will drive through the Lindis Pass with its beautiful mountain views and along the shores of Lake Pukaki, where we will get a glimpse of the grand Aoraki Mt. Cook. We will spend the night in Mount Cook Village, which provides several hiking trails that offer great opportunities to take pictures of the stunning Southern Alps. Then we’ll finish the day by capturing the last light hitting Mt Cook from Hooker Valley, and if conditions allow we will continue through the night to shoot some Astro.
The next day, we will head to Tasman Late to shoot sunrise capturing some of the floating icebergs in New Zealand's largest glacier lake. After that we will have rest of the morning and afternoon to explore various walks around the Mackenzie region. At the end of the day, we’ll shoot the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd sitting on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Again, we will have the opportunity to shoot some more Astro, as there is very little light pollution in the part of the world.
Day 8 - 10
Then we’ll move inland to the dramatic and beautiful Fiordland National Park, as we take the stunning drive to Milford Sound, where we’ll board a cruise ship to experience the grandeur of the fiord from sea level, with its high rugged cliffs, cascading waterfalls and marine wildlife.
We will shoot sunset and sunrise around Milford Sound and Te Anau.
From here, we’ll return to Queenstown to wrap up our trip. We’ll finish our tour with one last sunset and sunrise shoot from a few secret spots before heading back to reality...
